God’s Providential Deliverance – Esther

“I am the master of my fate, the captain of my soul.”

In daily life we often overlook the providence of God. Our normal lives—school, work, cooking, cleaning, travel—seem mundane, as though God were neither very present nor very active. In the book of Esther we see the everyday life of courtly politics. But we come to see the important truth that God is very active in his providence, as the catechism says, “governing all his creatures and all their actions.” In Esther we come to learn that in his providence God always favors his people, his church, in such a way that all circumstances, whether ordinary and every day, or cataclysmic, work toward their good.
