How to Use Your Photo Directory

We just published our first photo directory in 10 years. The instructions might seem pretty self-explanatory…open the cover, turn page, continue until finished. However, there are many ways you could use your photo directory for the glory of God.

Do you ever feel like you get stuck in a relational rut? You know there are new people at church you should be getting to know but even coming up with someone to get together with seems like hard work. So, you default to spending your time with the same people. Going deep in relationships is good, but we should also seek to build relationships with new people. Here are some ways your photo directory can help:

Put a name with a face

You know that person who sits near you in church each week, each week you call him “buddy!” He’s catching on…Names are important, Look for his picture, and call him by name.

“I have called you by name” –Isaiah 43:1

Invite someone over

You have considered having someone over, but you just can’t think of who. Maybe the Lord will use the pictures to direct you to someone you could serve by having them over for coffee, dinner, or a drink.

“…seek to show hospitality” -Romans 12:13

Set up a lunch meeting

Look through the photo directory and prayerfully ask the Lord who you should grab a meal with. Maybe it is someone you have met but have never gotten together with or someone you have not connected with in a while. Start a running list on your phone and line up your next free meal by starting at the top of the list.

And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.” – Acts 2:42

Pray for one another

Seeing people’s faces helps you remember their stories. Look through the directory and pray for your church family. Or, if you hear of a prayer request, look that person up so you can picture who you are praying for.

“…pray for one another…”- James 5:16

Encourage one another

If someone mentions something in life group or Sunday school and it means a lot to you, look up their contact info and let them know. If the Lord brings someone to mind during the week, then go the extra mile and send them a quick message, simple encouragements can mean so much.

“Therefore encourage one another…” -1 Thess 5:11

Start a prayer triad or ask someone to mentor you

Are you looking for a prayer triad or a mentor? Look through the photo directory and see if the Lord causes someone to stand out. From there, be bold, set up some time, and let them know your thoughts. Single guys, you could also adjust this idea for other uses…

And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works” Hebrews 10:24

Okay, now for some ways NOT to use your photo directory: kindling, fixing wobbly tables, never removing it from your car and end up using it as your emergency napkin stash.

If you have not gotten one yet grab one off of the table located in the second-floor hallway just outside the resource center. Don’t remain in your relational rut, choose ONE idea that stood out to you and go for it!

By the way, we have heard about some of the mistakes in the directory. For any of these that are our mistakes, we are sorry! You can change most things on your own (see instructions here), but if you can’t then let us know and we will get it taken care of for the next edition. It is our plan to update the online version in a month (hopefully all of the corrections will be made by then) and then to keep it updated by reposting it every 6 months or so.
