Worship

Our Philosophy of Corporate Worship

Our highest aim at Uptown Church during our Sunday morning worship service is to bring glory and honor to our great God and King by worshiping Him in spirit and in truth. We seek to do this through songs of praise, hymns of tradition, confessions, the reading of Scripture, traditional creeds and prayers passed down by faithful fathers of the reformed faith and most importantly – the preached Word of God. The sacraments of baptism and the Lord's Supper are a vital part of worship here at Uptown Church and we celebrate each once a month.

Our Belief About Worship

God calls us to a lifestyle of worship. We should live each moment of every day unto our Lord. He calls us to worship Him through being a transforming community, loving witness and helping neighbor.

"Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night." ~ Psalm 1:1-2.

"Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual act of worship." ~ Romans 12:1

The Sunday Morning Service is a vital element of worship for the Uptown community. During this time of worship, we seek to devote ourselves "to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer." (Acts 2:42)

"Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another – and all the more as you see the Day approaching." ~ Hebrews 10:25

Our Style of Worship

The musical style of Uptown is contemporary but also draws from the influence of traditional hymnody. We value new melodies and contemporary texts, but we also cherish the richness and depth of traditional hymns that have stood the test of time.

Our Teams for Worship

We have many dedicated volunteers who are involved on Sunday mornings. The following is a list of the possible opportunities to serve the Lord and Uptown Church through the Worship Ministry.

Praise and Worship – Vocalists and instrumentalists who assist in leading the congregation in worship on Sunday morning. If you would like to use your musical gifts to draw God's people into an authentic response to all that He is, we want to explore how your gifts can be used at Uptown. Please fill out and submit this Worship Information Form to help us gain valuable insight as to where you might be able to plug in. Worship Information Form. Rehearsals are on Thursdays from 7:00 - 9:30 pm.

Sound Technicians – Volunteers who run the sound system on their assigned Sunday, approximately once a month.

Equipment Team – Volunteers who set-up or tear-down the worship equipment and supplies approximately one to two times per month.

Announcers – Individuals who deliver our verbal announcements to the congregation before the Call to Worship on Sunday mornings.

Welcome Team – People who greet worshipers as they enter the sanctuary and at visitor's receptions and luncheons. These teams, which serve approximately 8 times per year, also perform miscellaneous tasks on their assigned Sundays.
