Hosanna to the Son of David (Goodwyne)

* This first song is a “Song of Ascent'” modeled after the “Psalms of Ascents” (Ps. 120-134). These are songs the Israelites would sing as they journey to the Temple in Jerusalem to worship. For us, rather than a “prelude” which often gets talked over, a Song of Ascent is a corporate, preparatory act of worship. The text and music are simple, and easily memorizable. Use the links above to learn the music to this Palm Sunday text, and come early for worship to participate in this song.

The King of Glory (new!)

*This music for The King of Glory is an Israeli folk tune, and has a distinctly Jewish feel. On this Palm Sunday, it is significant to imagine Jesus’ own countrymen surrounding and joyfully following him as he made his “Triumphal Entry” into Jerusalem, just one week before these same people would crucify him. It is sobering to consider just how right they were to praise and process before him, and just how wrong they were in their understanding of him. They paid homage to a man they expected to mightily deliver them from Rome, and instead he was preparing to deliver his own body to death. But in that death he bought life, even for them.
