SEPTEMBER – NOVEMBER 2013
Truth, even as a concept, is largely being lost in our world.
There is opinion and perspective, but the notion that one could know the simple plain objective truth about, God for instance, is foreign. The search for real truth and the rejection of the notion of real truth is not new. During the early days of the church many different world views fought to define their own truth, and in particular their truth about God. This was the cultural “water” in which the churches swam as Peter wrote his second epistle, but he knew of the vital connection between truth leading to holiness and falsehood leading to immorality. Consequently, he wanted the churches to understand that there is one central truth about God and that knowing this truth, and avoiding false teaching about God, would shape and mold everything in a person’s life.
Understanding the truth about God and avoiding false teaching about Him is just as important today as it ever has been, so we need to understand the teaching of 2 Peter.
