Intern Program

“And what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also”

2 Timothy 2:2

Uptown Church seeks to be a “Leadership Greenhouse,” preparing future leaders and pastors who will lead the Church in Charlotte and around the world. To this end, we have established an Intern Program, providing valuable experience to seminary students in various areas of ministry within the church. This program will offer both focused and general ministry opportunities for students preparing for ministry.

+ How are interns trained?
Experience-We think one of the best things we can offer our interns is experience serving the local church. No matter what calling they have it is our desire that they learn to love their future congregation/ministry group by loving the congregation they serve during seminary. Interns gain experience in a number of different areas (teaching, preaching, staff dynamics, pastoral care, pastoral coaching, etc).

Training-Intern training takes place once a month during the school year and covers a variety of topics under the headings of: The Church, Character/sanctification, Shepherding/Leadership, Missions and Biblical preaching and teaching.

Mentoring-each intern meets with the pastor that oversees their ministry focus area once a month for mentoring, accountability and personal and professional coaching.

+ Where do our interns come from?
Uptown Church has been blessed by the significant relationship we have formed with Reformed Theological Seminary located here in Charlotte. Because we are located so close and based on our significant relationship with the institution most of our interns are from RTS. However, we do not only accept interns from RTS.
+ What should seminary students, that are interested in an internship, do to pursue an internship at Uptown Church?
Seminary students that are interested in serving as an intern should email Associate Pastor Dave Kulp, who oversees the intern program, expressing interest and set up a meeting to discuss interest, gifting and theological match. Although there are exceptions, our general process is that we like to match the internships that open up with those that have been at Uptown serving for their first year of ministry.
