Holiday Season Opportunites to Serve:

1) Uptown Church Women's Shelter:

Uptown Church will play the role of Innkeeper for the Salvation Army's Women's Shelter November 26-30.

We need volunteers in the following areas at this time:

Meals: Morning meals for up to 12 women, 4 Uptown Innkeepers and your LifeGroup / Team. Morning meals need to be at the church by 6am.

Innkeepers: Need is for both male and female Innkeepers. We are proposing two shifts (4:45pm - 10pm) and (10pm - 7:30am). If you are willing to serve for the entire evening we won't stop you. Requirements are simply to act as host and building security (though the building will be locked at all times). For our protection we need at least 1-2 female Uptown Members on site at all times and 4 volunteers total during each shift.

Transportation: Simply involves picking-up the women from The Salvation Army Center (534 Spratt Street, Charlotte, NC28206) around 5pm and returning them to the Center no later than 7-8am. Residents may have some personal belongings with them. If you live or work in the Uptown area this is an easy way to serve. If you can serve in any way or want more information please contact Jim Vaughn at 704-293-7014 or chrisnjim@windstream.com.

2) Operation Christmas Child:

Uptown Church is excited about sharing the love of Jesus Christ and the joy of Christmas this year. Through giving a simple gift of a shoe box filled with basic items and small goodies you and your family can be a part of reaching millions of children with the Gospel.

For more info and instructions on how to fill the shoe boxes, visit Samaritan's Purse Website

Please return all filled boxes to church by Sunday, November 18.

3) Hope for Charlotte Christmas Store:

Hope For Charlotte is in need of gifts and volunteers to help staff the Christmas store December 15th. If you and your family would like to participate please purchase a gift of $10.00 or more and place in the HFC gift box before November 30th. If you have any questions or would like to volunteer with the Christmas Store please call Jeremy Sorzano at 704-241-4589 or e-mail jsorzano@hopeforcharlotte.org

Continuing Opportunites to Serve:

1) Pro-Life Vigil

There is an opportunity for us to join with other Christians from across Charlotte and stand up for the rights of the unborn at an abortion clinic at 700 East Hebron Street.

Although you are welcomed to participate on any Saturday, we as a church have
set the third Saturday of the month as the time when we will join in this effort.

NEXT DATE: November 17
We’ll be there from 8:00 to 10:30 a.m. Signs will be available, prayer will be most appreciated. Please join us in standing up for these precious children.

DIRECTIONS: Directions to 700 East Hebron Street

For more information contact Bob Stevens at 704.845.5940 or email Bob@third-element.com

2) Helping New Moms In Need:

Baby clothing, equipment (cribs, strollers, car seats, pack-n-plays, swings, etc.), diapers, wipes, toys and board books are needed on a continual and ongoing basis to give as shower gifts to moms who have turned from abortion and chosen life for their babies. New or used items in good, clean condition are greatly appreciated. There will be a designated container in the Narthex in which you can place these items or please contact Martin Davis for more information @ 704-374-1002.

2) Jobs for Life:

Hope for Charlotte has partnered with Jobs for Life to work with the local business community to offer training and job placement opportunities for those people struggling with finding and keeping meaningful work. Jobs for Life, led by Scott Harris, has started its third class here in Charlotte and needs help in finding potential job opportunities for incoming students. We are looking for businesses that need hard-working employees and that would be interested in partnering with Jobs for Life to get access to potential employees participating in the Jobs for Life training program. If you own a company, work for a company, or know a company that needs quality employees and would be interested in learning more about what the Jobs for Life program can offer potential employers, please contact Scott Harris at 704-560-9345 or msharris@carolina.rr.com
