After a week off of blogging, due to the increased demands of Lessons and Carols, I’m back at it with this week’s liturgy. By the by, I do intend to post a follow up to Lessons and Carols walking through the service, posting some photos and (hopefully) sound bytes in the near future. So be on the lookout for that. but for now, lets use this place to prepare ourselves and our families for worship at Uptown Church.
This Sunday is the Third Sunday of Advent. Our custom is to progressively light candles around the Advent Wreath, and to consider their symbolism. The first candle is purple, and represents Hope. The second candle is also purple, and represents Annunciation. This week, we light the third candle, which is rose in color, and represents Proclamation. The narrative of Advent takes a particular turn this week, moving from a spirit of waiting and anticipation to one of confidence. The shoot of Jesse has been born, and this glorious news has been proclaimed to the lowly!
This week we also celebrate communion, the Eucharistic Feast. So I encourage you to come with hungry spirits, eager to eat with Jesus.
