Free Music from Josh Garrels

Folks, I want to share some more free music with you. The artist is Josh Garrels, and the album is Love & War & the Sea In Between. From his NoiseTrade bio, “Josh Garrels writes songs that span soundscapes and heartscapes. Yet no matter the musical form he chooses, what permeates his work is the boundless issue of the life of faith. With his latest release, “Love & War & The Sea In Between,” this Portland, Oregon-based singer-songwriter continues to grapple with the inextricable link of spiritual reality and human experience. As the name of the album implies, Garrels draws upon the universal themes of love, conflict, and the space that separates us.” NoiseTrade picks Garrels for fans of Patrick Waston, Fourtet, Woody Guthrie, Digable Planets and David Grey. Christianity Today rated this FREE album as their 2011 Album of the Year. Wow.

Garrels is another of a growing contingent of Christian musicians taking a smaller more independent approach to music, opting out of the Christian mega-labels. These folks are not afraid to express the intricacies and intimacies of the Christian faith, but at the same time are not afraid to make compelling and even provocative art.

So I’ve referenced NoiseTrade before. Of course, the deal is that the artist will give you their music in exchange for your email address (this will put you on their mailing list, but it isn’t usually obnoxious). They will request that you give them some free advertising via Facebook, Twitter or email, and if you feel so inclined, you can even leave a tip. But hopefully for the artist, you will become a loyal lover of the art they produce, wanting them to succeed.

Download and enjoy!

  1. I am convinced that this model works. I fell in love with this album last year and eventually I caved and bought his two previous LPs. Those are great as well, btw!

  2. I should probably admit that while I already had this album, it was @Jason’s prompting that got me to finally give it a listen. Glad I did.
